PET/CT Scan Preparation

1. If you are a Diabetic, please call the center for Instructions.

2. Please refrain from eating or drinking 6 hours prior to your scan with the exception of water. (Cardiac patients can eat a light meal 4 hours prior.)

3. If your appointment is in the afternoon, you may eat a light breakfast 6 hours prior to your appointment time. (dry toast, hard boiled egg, milk only.)

4. Please bring your most recent CT Scan, PET Scan, MRI, Bone Scan Films and/or Biopsy Reports and any other recent studies that might be helpful.

5. Please notify us within 24 hours of your appointment time, if you are unable to keep the appointment. Call 602.331.1771.

6. We ask that you refrain from wearing any type of metal on your body or clothing. Please try to dress in warm comfortable clothing, as the scanner room is kept cool.

7. You will be asked to remain on the scan table for approximately 50 minutes. If you feel this may be a problem, please feel free to call us.

8. Please allow approximately 2 hours to complete the study. The results are usually available to your referring physician within 1 business day.

9. On the day of your exam, we ask that you take your medications with water only. However, if you are a diabetic, please call the center for instructions.

10. Those films, which you brought with you, will be available to you again, usually within 24-48 hours.
